Worthgate School Cafe.
Interior Architecture & Design, Specification + Procurement.
The Worthgate School Chaucer Cafe is a vibrant and busy space for different activities, from a quick coffee to focus work and a social evening hub for students living in the accommodation. Named after the 14th-century author best known for The Canterbury Tales.
When designing this space, understanding the users using this space daily was key, as well as taking careful consideration toward the circulation. The existing space is busy with 5 entrance points to the cafe.
The brief firstly revolved around creating an inspiring, relaxing and social environment which is fit for purpose. We created various zones: coffee and focus, dining and collaboration, and a chill out social zone. Ranging from a single user sitting down for some focus time, to a group of 12 students sitting down to socialise with their friends.
Secondly the brief was to ensure the school brand and identity was present as soon as you entered the space without leaning into too much corporate branding. We used the brand colour palette to carefully select flooring, upholstery, wall covering and bring in greenery to tie in with the brand.
The final result is practical, on-brand and in line with various users and personalities coming in to use the space throughout the day.
